being 8

This gorgeous girl turned 8 and has chosen to get baptised soon.  I consider her my 4th daughter - I have loved watching her grow up....not that she is grown up... don't say that... i might have a heart attack.  I am so excited for her!  When I got home from taking these, I was so excited to see them that I uploaded them, decided to work on just one, and over 2 hours later (1:45am) decided to stop.  What can I say?  It was so fun to do something a little different and more formal than my usual style.  Oh - and she was loving the reflection pictures so we had to play with that a lot!

Perspective

It seems there are a lot of families struggling right now to hold on to their loved ones.  From my parents neighbor whose life ended in a random accident, to my neighbors daughter who is fighting to extend her life, to a young boy named Mitchell, only known to me through Facebook, who will soon be passing on.  I am immediately conscious of our immortality and the precious life we have been given.  I am trying more to savor the important things - and let the unimportant things go.  It is hard as a parent to keep the right perspective.  I am drawn to photography because of this.  When I look at the faces of my 4 little angels, or other children, I see their beauty and their possibility, not their flaws and struggles.
I had a photo shoot cancel on short notice Saturday and decided to drag my kids out into the snow.  It only took a little bribery... to the tune of a trip to Maceys for Texas doughnuts.  Well worth the cavities!

Disneyland!!

We surprised our kids with a trip to California!  We literally checked them out of school, brought them home, said "WE ARE GOING to DISNEYLAND!", threw them in the car and left.  They were extremely surprised and excited - especially my 10 year old who always has to know EVERYTHING! The drive actually went really well- since we took a break in Mesquite for the night.  It has been a really cold winter and feeling 60 degrees with no coats and sandals was HEAVEN!!  We spent the first couple of days in San Diego - we saw some of our old friends and played at a few different beaches.  Then we worked our way up the coast to Anaheim, went through LA to visit family in LaCanada, then spent 2 full days at California Adventure and Disneyland.  So. Fun.  I think my favorite part is seeing my older girls become little again, and seeing my little ones experience new things.
